Unfollow settings in Growbot explained

Unfollow options in Settings control who Growbot skips during an unfollow pass. Misconfigured options are the main reason people think unfollow is broken.

Why

Unfollow is not broken when it skips people. It is usually following a rule you enabled: do not unfollow followers, do not unfollow recent follows, do not unfollow whitelist accounts, or do not unfollow people matching filters. These options protect your account but confuse you if you forgot they were on.

How to use it

  1. Go to Settings → Unfollowing Options.
  2. Don't unfollow people who follow me: keeps anyone who follows you. Turn off only if you intentionally want to unfollow mutuals.
  3. Don't unfollow people I began following less than N days ago protects recent follows (3 days by default). Unfollow people I began following more than N days ago (even if they follow me) does the opposite for old follows, and is off by default.
  4. Don't unfollow people followed outside of Growbot (on by default): skips accounts Growbot has no record of following, such as follows you made by hand before using Growbot.
  5. Don't unfollow people who match my filters: skips accounts that still match your filter profile (useful for niche cleanup, confusing for general unfollow).
  6. Whitelist always wins: whitelisted accounts are never unfollowed.
  7. Check the Log tab when an account is skipped. Growbot logs the reason (follows you, whitelisted, filtered, too recent, etc.).

Tips

  • If Growbot unfollows nobody, uncheck Don't unfollow people who follow me first and watch the Log on the next run.
  • Profile follower counts on Instagram can lag. If the Log says UNFOLLOWED, trust Growbot over the number on your profile for a few minutes.
  • Pair these settings with a saved whitelist of friends and clients before any mass unfollow.
