Growbot is skipping accounts: what each Log message means

When Growbot skips an account, the Log says why. Almost every skip comes from a setting, a list, or a filter you can change.

Why

A skip is Growbot doing what it was told. Before each action it checks your lists, your filters, and your settings, and it passes over any account that would break one of those rules. That is what stops it from following the same person twice or unfollowing a friend. But when every account in a queue gets skipped, it can look as if Growbot is broken.

The Log tab always records the reason. Find the message below and you will know which setting to look at. The grey stamps on each queue row show the same reasons at a glance.

How to use it

When following

  • already attempted ... skipped: Growbot followed or requested this account before (ATTEMPTED stamp). To follow them again, turn on Follow people I've already attempted in Settings → Following Options. Usually the better fix is to load fresh accounts.
  • already being followed: skipped: you already follow them.
  • already requested: skipped: you already have a pending request to this private account.
  • is private: skipped: Private Accounts is unchecked on the Filters tab. Check it if you want to send requests to private accounts.
  • did not match your filters: skipped: Apply Filters Automatically While Following is on and this account failed at least one filter. If nearly everyone fails, your filters are too narrow. Click Reset Filters and add them back one at a time.
  • is blacklisted, skipping: the account is on your blacklist.

When unfollowing

  • is one of your followers, skipping: Don't unfollow people who follow me is on.
  • was followed outside of Growbot, skipping: Don't unfollow people followed outside of Growbot is on, and Growbot has no record of following this account.
  • was followed too recently to unfollow: Don't unfollow people I began following less than N days ago is protecting a recent follow.
  • follows you but Growbot has no follow date on record, skipping: you turned on Unfollow people I began following more than N days ago, but Growbot does not know when you followed this account.
  • couldn't verify whether they follow you, skipping unfollow: Instagram did not return the follow status, so Growbot skipped rather than guess. This often clears up on a later run.
  • is whitelisted, skipping: the account is on your whitelist.

When removing, blocking, or unfollowing with filters

  • skipped (matches your filters): Don't unfollow people who match my filters or Don't remove or block people who match my filters is on, and your current Filters tab settings apply to this account. Click Reset Filters or turn the option off.

When scheduling

  • Skipped N account(s) already in the pending actions queue (same type and target): the same action is already scheduled for those accounts.
  • Action for @name ignored (logged in as @other): the action belongs to a different Instagram account. Switch to that account in the same browser and it will run.

Tips

  • If a whole queue shows ATTEMPTED, you have already worked through that audience. Pick a new post, hashtag, or account instead of following the same people again.
  • Scheduled unfollows check your whitelist and settings when they run, not when you scheduled them, so fixing a setting also fixes actions already waiting in the Actions Queue.
  • Leave Show stamps in queue checked in Settings under Queue display. It is the fastest way to see what Growbot will skip before you start.
  • When you contact support about skips, copy the full Log. The skip lines usually answer the question on their own.
