Community Monitoring: unfollower alerts and bot detection

Community Monitoring tracks your follower list in the background, alerts you when someone unfollows, and scores your followers for bot-like behavior.

Why

Knowing who unfollowed you helps you decide who to keep following and who to unfollow back. Bot detection helps you clean your follower list so your engagement metrics stay healthy. Community Monitoring runs these checks in the background while you use Instagram, without you having to do anything manually.

How to use it

  1. Go to the Settings tab and open Community Monitoring.
  2. Check Track followers & unfollowers to enable follower tracking.
  3. Configure Background checks:
    • Incremental check interval (hours): how often Growbot does a quick check for recent changes. Default is 24 hours.
    • Full rescan interval (days): how often Growbot does a complete comparison of your follower list. Default is 7 days.
    • Max accounts per full rescan: limits how many accounts Growbot checks in a single full scan. Default is 2500. Increase this if you have a large follower count.
  4. Click Check now to run an incremental scan immediately, or Rescan now for a full rescan.
  5. When Growbot detects unfollowers, it shows an alert panel listing the accounts that unfollowed you. For each unfollower, you can choose to unfollow them back, remove them as a follower, or block them.
  6. Set up auto-actions for unfollowers under "When unfollowers are detected":
    • Show alert: shows the unfollower alert modal.
    • Automatically follow: re-follows the unfollower (rarely useful, but available).
    • Automatically unfollow: unfollows them back.
    • Automatically block: blocks the unfollower.
  7. Bot detection: check Automatically check my followers for bots. Growbot scores each follower based on profile signals (follower/following ratio, post count, bio content, etc.).
  8. Set the Minimum bot score for auto-actions threshold (0 to 100). Only followers scoring above this threshold trigger auto-actions. Default is 70.
  9. Configure auto-actions for bots:
    • Show alert when bots are detected: displays a notification.
    • Automatically unfollow: unfollows the bot account.
    • Automatically remove follower: removes the bot from your follower list.
    • Automatically block: blocks the bot account.

Tips

  • Start with bot detection alerts only (no auto-actions) until you are confident the scoring is accurate for your audience. Some legitimate accounts may score high if they have unusual profiles.
  • The unfollower alert modal shows up while you are using Instagram. If you miss it, the unfollower data is still stored and will appear on the next check.
  • Increasing the full rescan interval saves API calls but means unfollower detection takes longer. A weekly full rescan is a good balance for most accounts.
  • Community Monitoring requires you to have an Instagram tab open with Growbot loaded. It does not run when the browser is closed.
