How to keep Growbot running without interruption

Growbot runs inside your browser tab. If the tab gets suspended or your computer sleeps, Growbot pauses until you come back.

Why

Browsers save memory by suspending tabs you have not looked at recently. When that happens to your Instagram tab, Growbot stops processing the queue. Your computer going to sleep has the same effect. A few small settings changes prevent both problems.

How to use it

  1. Keep your computer awake while Growbot is working. On most systems, go to your power or energy settings and set the sleep timer to Never (or a long duration).
  2. Keep the Instagram tab visible, or at minimum do not close it. Growbot can run in a background tab, but some browsers throttle background tabs aggressively.
  3. Disable tab discarding in Chrome. Open a new tab, paste chrome://discards in the address bar, and press Enter. Find your Instagram tab in the list and toggle Auto Discardable to No.
  4. Avoid "memory saver" or "sleeping tabs" features that put Instagram to sleep. In Chrome, go to Settings > Performance, find Always keep these sites active, and add www.instagram.com.
  5. In Growbot, leave Keep Instagram tabs running in the background checked under Settings → Instagram behavior.
  6. If Growbot stops mid-task, reload the Instagram page and reopen Growbot. It will resume from where it left off in most cases.

Tips

  • If you are running Growbot overnight, make sure your screen saver does not trigger sleep mode.
  • Some browser extensions (like The Great Suspender) will also suspend tabs. Whitelist Instagram in those extensions.
  • Growbot saves queue progress, so a brief interruption does not lose your work.
